Nancy, the second city in the Lorraine region of north-east France, boasts a rich cultural history. Former capital of the Duchy of Lorraine, it remains as eye-catching as it was around the 16th and 18th centuries, when most of the city centre was built. Filled with twinkling shop-windows and stained-glass, it’s no wonder part of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site; just a short journey away from the Kyriad Nancy Sud-Ludres hotel.
The late 19th century saw an influx of refugees to the city, doubling its population in three decades. Artistic, academic, financial and industrial excellence flourished, leading to UNESCO’s naming it an area of ‘truly outstanding interest, representing universal values’.
Lorraine consists of four departments: Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle and Vosges, and is perfect for a trip over the border, being the only region in France to edge Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany.
