Situated just to the north of Paris, Roissy – also known as Roissy-en-France – is a small town in the Val d’Oise department. Roissy has a population of about 2,500 and is surrounded by Charles de Gaulle Airport, one of the busiest in the world. Roissy has a long history, dating back almost 2000 years. In its early days, the town profited from the fertile farmland surrounding it, and became a bread basket for local rulers.
In the 1960s, the French government decided to build a new airport in Roissy, appropriating 800 hectares of communal land for the project. Though Roissy struggled during the construction of the airport, the coming decades brought new economic opportunities to the town. Through government-backed programmes, parts of the city were refurbished and upgraded, and Roissy now boasts modern facilities, including the Orangerie Cultural Centre, located just five minutes from the Kyriad Roissy Villepinte Hotel.
