A diamond amongst the French Riviera, Cannes lies on the stunning South Coast of France renowned for its luxury and good living. This town also borders on many other elite destinations such as Nice and St Tropez. Part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Cannes belongs to the Alpes-Maritimes department, home to mountainous landscapes overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. With a warm climate all year round, expect scorching summers and mild winters. And it's not surprising it's well-known for stunning sandy beaches amongst tourists and holiday home owners.
Dating back to the tenth century, Cannes was known as 'Canua' derived from the word 'canna', meaning reed due to its coastline location. In Roman times much of the activity of the city centred around fishing and the Lérins Islands not far from the city would use Cannes as a popular stop over between these explorations. Since its modernisation the city is now a busy hub of modern luxury and culture, thanks to glamorous events like the Cannes Film Festival.
