Futuroscope, or Parc du Futuroscope to give it its full name, is a multi-media based theme park involving cinematographic and audio visual techniques. The park has several 3D cinemas and even a few 4D cinemas. Some of its attraction are the only examples in the whole world of certain types of technology. The park now contains more than twenty different attractions and eight shops. The park’s architecture mainly consists of metal and glass to give it its futuristic appearance.
Futuroscope is situated between the towns of Poitiers and Chatellerault, but is nearer to Poitiers to the south. It is in the department of Vienne. The park opened in 1987, and was the brain child of Rene Monory, the president of the general council of Vienne, who also laid the park’s first stone in 1984. The park has had 40 million visitors since it first opened, with 1.826 million visitors in 2010 alone.
